Alice Ellington

Alice "Gay" Ellington, 75, of Belmont, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

Gay was born May 27, 1946, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Elton Alvah Whitley and the late Alice Gray Wolfe Whitley.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred Henry Ellington, Jr. Gay was a proud graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in Social Work. She spent her career as a social worker for Stanly County Social Services where she was a caseworker and trained foster parents. She loved all of the children she worked with and the foster families that opened their homes. She was madly in love with her husband, raised two kind, warm-hearted sons who will miss her sorely, and doted on her adorable grandsons. Gay cared deeply for her dogs, Cindy and Charlie, who lived a pampered life by her side.

Survivors include son, Alfred "Al" Henry Ellington, III. his wife Cathy Ellington; son, Brian Thomas Ellington, his wife Moriah Beth Ellington; grandsons, Samuel Gray Ellington and Henry Quinn Ellington.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel.  The webcast will begin at 2:30 pm: https://video.ibm.com/channel/hartsell-funeral-home-albemarle1 The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm, officiated by Pastor R. Vincent Dehm.  Following the service, Gay will be laid to rest at Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle.
