Dorothy Binic

Dorothy Marjory Binic was 94 years old.  Born on Aug 1, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio to Alex Jacobs & Barbara Gyorfy Jacobs - who were both immigrants from Hungary.

Raised on a farm in Aurora, Ohio along with her 5 siblings, it was her job to round up the cows after school for milking.  Ma was a little tomboy who loved to play softball with her brothers.  Later, while playing on a girls team,  she was spotted and asked to be on a girls professional team.  Her old world parents forbade it. She was amazingly good with tools and probably would have been an excellent carpenter but, times as they were, whoever heard of girl doing that??! We believe the above incidents shaped her views as she raised her daughters to know they could be whatever they chose to be. She has passed on her love of traveling to at least  3 more generations. She traveled extensively in the USA and quite a bit in Europe and had an amazing time in the Seychelles.

Ma placed great stock in education and led us to learn, learn, and learn some more. She was one of the smartest women I have ever met and it was rare to see her without a book. She loved to laugh.  It never took more than a glance my way for her to know what I was thinking and crack us both up.  I think I will miss her laughter the most.

Along with her love of softball - coaching as well as playing - she just adored watching  baseball, football, horse racing, Nascar, and a little bit of golf thrown in for good measure.  Needless to say she was athletic and tried to pass on to us kids -- didn't work for me but she did try.  Into her early 90's she still walked a couple miles a day & bowled once a week.
Ma loved nature & animals.  She loved Steve Harvey and his Family Feud show.   She liked going to play the slots &  enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle.  She enjoyed the art of  flirting and practiced it as recent as 2 days ago!

My mother was also extremely faithful & honest.  But double cross or disappoint her and she could hold a grudge longer than anyone.
I feel blessed that I had such a good mother to guide me through my life, one that let me make my own decisions and take my own consequences.  I appreciate that I had her for so long.  I am very happy that I was able  to have her live in my home this past year.  I love you, Ma.

She is survived by her children, Dorothy "Cookie" Schick Jones & husband George, her favorite, Richard Schick & wife Pat, her baby, Jo Binic Burress, and Barbara & Danny Fox; her grandchildren, Angela Blessing, Richard Schick Jr., her favorite, Jason Fox, and Rachel Fox; her great-grandchildren, Katherine Fox, Jacob Fox, her self-proclaimed best friend, Jori Fox, and Will Fox; her sister, Barbara Fear; and last but not least, the love of the last year of her life, Tink Fox.
