Dr. Stephen Jolly

Dr. Stephen A Jolly, beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed peacefully on February 2, 2022 at age 75.

Stephen, born on May 24, 1946 in Shelby, North Carolina to Clyde and Virginia Jolly attended High School at R.S. Central in Rutherdfordton, NC and obtained his bachelors and doctorate in Accounting at UNC Chapel Hill. He then began teaching at UNC Charlotte in 1975 where he was an accounting professor for over 25 years.

Stephen was a US Army Vietnam Veteran, an Eagle Scout, a member of Alpha Phi Omega and Phi Kappa Phi, a 1980 recipient of the Bank of America Excellence in Teaching Award, a partner in the Kohari and Jolly Accounting Firm, an avid Tar Heel baseball fan and collector of many more accolades. But his biggest accomplishment was his love for his wife Cheryl, daughter Amy, grandchildren Aubrey and Henry and brothers Conway Jolly of Davidson, NC and Richard Jolly of Forest City, NC - along with his many other family and friends.

Stephen found the most joy in being with those he loved. He will be remembered for his ability to tell stories (and long ones) and for his ability to add a fun fact to any conversation. He instilled the love of travel in his daughter and granddaughter. He taught Amy to plan trips without agendas so that you can stop to enjoy your surroundings and learn along the way because you just never know what lies ahead of you. Stephen loved his family and had a passion for genealogy and could tell you on the spot who your great uncle's second cousin once removed was if you happened to be curious.  He also cared for his friends as family and will be missed by all.

Stephen was a storyteller, provider, advocate, friend and teacher.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Stephen A and Cheryl C Jolly Family Scholarship by visiting crowdfund.uncc.edu/jolly. A Celebration of Life will take place at UNC Charlotte on May 24, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Pavilion.
