Joyce Anderson

Joyce Hinson Anderson, 83, of Concord, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Concord Place.

Joyce was born May 2, 1939, in Wayne County, NC, to the late Rob and Maggie Hinson.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Norwood Glenn Anderson; and six siblings.

After high school, Joyce attended nursing school before getting married.  Then she became a mother to two crazy boys.  She moved from her home of Wayne County to the Charlotte area before settling in Harrisburg, NC.  After moving to the Charlotte area she worked at Wachovia and supported her husband in starting the family business, Anderson Uniform Company.  Upon retirement she watched her grandchildren and later great grandchildren.  Joyce, or Mawmaw as she became known, lived for serving her family.  That was her greatest role.  Whether it was aiding her husband in business, or cooking, or lending a sympathetic ear, or providing support so we could pursue our dreams; she did it all tirelessly.  In addition to attending NewLife Church, she enjoyed gardening and shopping at thrift stores.  She was the matriarch of her family, an example of a Godly wife and mother, and she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include son, Windell Glenn Anderson, and wife, Sheila, of Sherrills Ford; son, David Ray Anderson, and wife, Deborah, of Harrisburg; granddaughter, Shannon E. Bittenbender, and husband, Ian; granddaughter, Niki A. Miller and husband, Eric; grandson, Michael J. Anderson; great-grandchildren, Gabriel R. Anderson, Aubrey E. Miller, Brantley M. Anderson, Kinsley R. Miller, Tripp G. Anderson, Maverick L. Anderson, and Renee E. Bittenbender; sister, Lois H. Grimes; sister, Jewel H. Britt Halso; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg.  The service will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Brandon Bowers.  Joyce will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 US Hwy 117 S, Dudley.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10, 2022, officiated by Rev. Brandon Bowers.  Joyce will lie in state at the cemetery chapel from 10:00 am - 10:45 am on Thursday.
