Max Carroll Coleman, 85, of Norwood, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at home with family by his side.
Max was born January 1, 1935 in Huntington, WV to the late Russell and Gertrude Coleman. He was also preceded in death by beloved wife, Zola Louise Coleman; infant daughter, Lisa Louise Coleman; brothers, Gene and Bill Coleman.
Max was proud to be a retired veteran of the United States Army. He served two combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam. After his military service, Max retired after 23 years at Newport News Shipbuilding. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing. Max was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include son, Robert Wayne Coleman of Yorktown, VA; niece, Deena Coleman Haley (and husband, Tim) of Norwood, NC; brother, David Michael Coleman (and wife, Edna) of LaFayette, GA; six grandchildren, Jason Adam Coleman, Christopher Michael Coleman (and wife, Lauren), Kevin Wayne Coleman, Joseph Bradley Coleman, Brooke Logan Coleman, and Taylor Lawrence Blanton; and 3 great-grandchildren, James, Victoria and Rachel; sister-in-law, Jeannie Coleman; nephew, Robert Brent Coleman (and wife, Tami); niece, Connie Kirk (and husband, Mike); and three great-nephews, Brian Coleman, Peter Haley and Aaron Haley.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or your local hospice.
