Nancy Helms

Nancy Evelyn Parker Helms, 99, passed away peacefully March 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Evelyn, born on a farm in Anson County, January 5, 1919, was the daughter of the late William David and Elizabeth Mitchum Parker of Peachland, N.C.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Erskine Parker, sister, Ruth Griffin Rhoney, grandson Phil Love, and son-in-law Ted Love.

Evelyn was a devoted Christian who loved her Lord and Hopewell Baptist Church where she attended until her health declined. It was at a church revival that she met her husband, Horace Helms. That marriage lasted 80 years until his death in 2015. She was a sweet, loving person, always positive, and expressed unconditional love for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening with her husband, making quilts, and baking coconut cakes.  Evelyn lived a long and happy life and is most assuredly being greeted in heaven by her family and loved ones; especially her beloved husband, Horace. Together and home at last.

Surviving are daughters, Lucille H. Love of Stanfield, N.C., Peggy (Jerry)Funderburk of Fairview, a brother Tommy (Judy)Parker of Peachland, N.C., nine grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Hopewell Baptist Church, Legacy Chapel, 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe, N.C. from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.. A celebration of her life will begin at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Fountain Hill United Methodist Cemetery, 7320 N.C. 218 East, Peachland, N.C.
