Richard Milam, 74, of Concord, NC, formerly of New Orleans, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, at Novant Health Huntersville after a year-long battle with cancer.
Richard was born December 26, 1946, in Batesville, MS, to the late Clyde Purvis Milam and the late Lorane Markham Milam. He was raised in Little Rock, AR, and graduated from Little Rock Central High School. He then moved with his family to New Orleans and attended the University of New Orleans where he met his wife. They lived in New Orleans and raised their daughter there. When she moved with her family to North Carolina after Hurricane Katrina, they followed four years later to live near their granddaughters.
Richard served as Executive Vice President of Central Savings and Loan in New Orleans and later became a tax preparer for H & R Block. Upon retiring he served as the nanny for his granddaughter Madeline for her first two years. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. He was a history buff and visited many historic sites. He enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and exploring small towns.
Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his family and enjoyed long-time friends. He'll be remembered for his almost encyclopedic knowledge of almost any topic. He loved watching football, remained a life-long Arkansas Razorback fan, and was a New Orleans Saints fan.
Richard was a supporter of and contributor to Holy Covenant United Church of Christ and the Equal Justice Initiative.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a niece, Kimberly Heflin.
