Ted Lenwood Smith, 88 of Albemarle passed at his home on June 5, 2023.
He is survived by the love of his life of 63 years, Linda Wishon Smith, one son Ted Lenwood Smith, II and wife Judy Broyles-Smith. His only surviving sibling, Shelby Jean Smith.
Lenwood has four grandchildren, Ben Smith (Haley), Elizabeth Candis Forrest (Brantley), John Christopher Smith (Ashley), and Jake Alexander Smith (Alex). He also has three step-grandchildren Kelly Broyles Hill (Nic), Christopher David Broyles (Tennessee-Taylor) and Jon-Michael Broyles (Kassy). Altogether he has fourteen great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his father, Ernest Lee Smith and mother, Glenna Plyler Smith. His brothers: Stevie Joe, Claude, Herman, Roy, Ivey and Bill; sisters: Faye, Lillie Mae, Juanita and Shirley.
Lenwood, was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Served in the Artillery and Transportation Divisions in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. He retired after a long career with Wiscassett Mills.
He farmed with his dad and family for many years. He loved gardening and spending time with his wife and family.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and later in life, he was a member of Prospect Baptist Church. He loved to share his testimony and love for Jesus.
The family ask instead of flowers that a donation be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie ( https://hospiceofstanly.org/donate-3/ ) , your local church, or preferred charity.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The service will follow in Hartsell’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory with military rites by the North Carolina National Guard Group.
