Aidan Wright

Aidan William Wright of Concord, age 13, was called home to be with God on July 23, 2019. He passed peacefully at home following hospitalizations for scoliosis surgery and subsequent pneumonia. He was a student at Harold Winkler Middle School in Concord.

Aidan was born February 21, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Erin (McSwain) and Russell Wright. He was a long-awaited miracle and was nicknamed "Piglet" after the lovable character from the Winnie the Pooh books. As a baby and toddler, he loved Curious George, Wonder Pets, trucks and tractors and you never saw him without his "bink".

In August 2007, the family moved to North Carolina. Sadly, only 6 months later, on February 16, 2008, Aidan had a near-fatal drowning accident. Paramedics and doctors worked very hard to bring Aidan back after being without oxygen for possibly up to an hour. While he was brought back to life, Aidan suffered a traumatic brain injury and had numerous health issues related to it.

Over the following 11 years, Aidan's parents did everything in their power to insure that he had the best life possible. He was treated by amazing doctors, nurses, therapists, and wonderful, loving teachers and staff at school. Aidan is fiercely loved; even though he couldn't speak or move his arms or legs, the look on his face would always reciprocate that love to everyone he met. He was notorious for pretending he wasn't interested in something by "falling asleep". All it took was for someone to talk about him for him to start smiling.

Aidan touched the lives of everyone who met him. His personality shone like a light on a hill. His big brown eyes, long eyelashes, infectious smile, and thick brown hair were regularly fawned upon and appreciated by friends and strangers alike. If you were able to make him laugh, it was a truly special moment, indeed. Aidan loved music, being read to, especially by his brother and sister. You could always get a smile out of him by scratching his head or playing with his hair. He also loved being held and rocked and was spoiled by both his nurses and teachers who cared for him over the years.

Aidan is survived by his parents, Russell and Erin, a younger brother, Evan, and little sister Graceyn of the home. He is also survived by his grandparents, Pamalea Wright of Bristow, OK; Peg Livingston of Tulsa, OK; Sonia and Danny Lewis of Kannapolis, NC; and great-grandmother, Carolyn Sinclair of Norwood, NC; Uncle and Aunt, Brandon and Bridget McSwain of Portland, OR; Uncle, Matthew McSwain of Mt. Pleasant, NC; Uncle and Aunt, Bryan and Gera Wright of Collinsville, OK; along with numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. He was most recently preceded in death by his great-grandfather Robert Sinclair, and welcomed into Heaven by his grandfathers, Owen Wright and William "Bill" McSwain, his great-grandparents, Hugh and Bernice McSwain, and his labradoodle Gracie who passed away just before July 4th.

Visitation will be Friday, July 26 from 6-8 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, North Carolina. His memorial service will be on Saturday, July 27 at 3 PM at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
