Alan Eugene Wilson, age 63, died on Saturday evening April 7, 2018 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC surrounded by his wife, his close family and, of course, his ever-present dog Buddy.
Alan was born in Switzer WV, graduated high school in Logan WV, and was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving his country as a load master for 10 years active duty and 12 years reserve duty. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged.
He worked for 25 years as an electrician for government contractors, a career that took him around the world installing and maintaining security equipment in US embassies and consulates. His favorite pastime was fascinating his friends with stories of his travels. Alan often said he’d seen some of the most beautiful places in the world and some of the worst places in the world.
Alan’s home base was Charleston SC after leaving the Air Force and during his embassy career. He moved with his wife to Concord NC in 2013 and quickly grew to love being state side and stationary. He worked locally as an electrician, taking joy in doing improvements to their home and assembling what his wife called the world’s largest collection of lawn equipment and power tools. He retired in early 2017, intending to finally do some traveling in the US to see his own country. Sadly, cancer ended those plans a few short months later.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Milligan Wilson II and Jackie Doris Cox Wilson of Switzer WV. Also preceding him were two brothers James Milligan Wilson III known as Jimmy of Chicago, IL and Jerry Michael Wilson known as Bubby of Woodbridge, VA.
Alan is survived in his immediate family by his adoring wife Judi Wilson of Concord NC, his son Alan Godwin of Oklahoma, his sister Cheri Nikzad of Palm Coast FL, and his furry best friend Buddy. Also surviving are all his many nieces and nephews and five step children and their families living across the US.
Visitation will be on Saturday April 14, 2018 from 10 AM to Noon at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord NC. The family will have their private time together prior to the visitation, with no public funeral nor burial as per Alan's wishes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that generous contributions be given to your nearest Hospice House or Hospice organization. This family now understands that they truly do God’s work.
