Albert Ford Newton, 87, of Concord, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast. His family and friends surrounded him with prayers and singing of old hyms prior to his passing. The visitation will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church 1030 Burrage Road NE Concord on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 2 until 3 pm. Funeral services will follow at the church at 3 pm, with Rev. Glen Myers, Rev. James Strickland, and Rev. Tim Newton officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Newton was born on April 22, 1925 in Cabarrus County, to the late John Newton and Mary Newton. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Evelyn Sherrill Newton owner and operator of Evelyn’s Record Shop in Concord, in the 1960’s, who passed away in 2003, brother, Ike Newton, and sister, Betty Lovell. Albert served in the US Army from 1943 until 1945 in 45th Infantry Division, serving as Rifleman in Italy, France, and Germany. He received The European, Africa and Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Medals with three Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was owner and operator of Albert’s Family Hairstyling for more than 30 years. Albert loved to celebrate Christmas and his home was well known for his Christmas lights. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Kay Almond and husband Daniel of Concord; granddaughter, Molly A. Measmer and husband Rex; grandson, Danny P. Almond, granddaughter, Amy A. Honeycutt and husband Stacy; great-grandchildren, Wendy Grarofalo and husband Rob, Christopher Measmer, Heather Shoaf, Zachary Almond, Mattie Honeycutt, Maggie Honeycutt; great-great-grandchild, Logan Shoaf; brother, J.B. Newton and wife Helen of Concord; sisters, Ruby Savastano of Sussex, NJ and Helen Gunnerson of Moline, IL; sister-in-laws, Ruth Plott of Newport News, VA, Joyce Egbert of Kirkland, WA; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Myra Kay Sloop of Concord. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Nathan Lairamore for his wonderful, loving, compassionate care.   Â
