Alice Austin

Alice Flora Meggs Austin, 83, of Midland, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Stanfield, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. At other times the family will meet at her home. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Midland, with Rev. Tom Gibbs officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Austin was born in Union County on September 29, 1928 to the late William Leander Meggs and the late Bertha Thomas Meggs. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Austin. She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Horne and her husband, Bennie, of Stanfield and Nancy Little and her husband, Donnie, of Midland; her brothers, Kemp Meggs of Concord and Marvin Meggs of New Salem; her sister, Mary Lee Crisco of New Salem; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
