Colonel Allan Conrad Hathcock, age 73 of Asheboro, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Woodland Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center, Asheboro. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Sunday, September 30 from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Darrell Hathcock and Luther McIntyre. Col. Hathcock was born in Stanly County on December 29, 1938 to the late Edd L. Hathcock and the late Evye Cranford Hathcock. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Fay Hatley Hathcock, of the home; and one brother Ed Hathcock (Betty) of Hendersonville. Growing up in Albemarle, he was a 1957 graduate of Albemarle High School and received a BS from NC State and held a masters degree. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Col. Hathcock proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He entered pilot training at Moody AFB, GA in 1961 and he flew for over 15 years before entering the transportation field. He graduated from Air Command and Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He served as commander of several transportation squadrons and in 1982 he became the Director of Transportation at Headquarters Pacific Air Force at Hickman AFB in Hawaii. He was one of the first Air Force Memorial Fund donors. He was awarded many medals including, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with Silver Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Outstanding Unit Award with Valor device, just to name a few. He flew many global missions over the years throughout most parts of the world. Hunting and fishing were just a couple of his favorite pastimes.
