Amelia Rose “Amy” Salay Giess, age 91 of 808 Fulton Street, Albemarle, passed away on April 16, 2010 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 on Sunday, April 25 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Funeral service will be 11 am on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. The Very Reverend, Peter Fitzgibbons will officiate. Burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory. Born in Cullman, Alabama on July 15, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Augustus Salay and the late Rose Garay Salay. Amy was a bookkeeper and secretary for Metal Forge in Albemarle. She was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Albemarle and a member of the Daughters of Mary where she served as secretary/treasurer for a number of years. Amy was an alumnus of Stanly Community College graduating with an AAS in Accounting at the age of 70 years in 1988. She is survived by her daughter Gay Gail Giess Welsh and husband John of New London NC; grandchildren, Jonathan Baird Welsh of Lemore, Ca., William Curtis Welsh and wife Nou Kou of Spring Valley, Ca., Rosemary Grace Welsh of Albemarle, Kristen Lise Welsh and Trinity Elizabeth Welsh both of the home; and great grandson, Conner Chaly Welsh, the infant son of William and Nou. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 416 N. Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
