Andrew Gettys

Mr. Andrew "Bruce" Gettys, age 85, of Charlotte, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at his home. He was born on August 23, 1925 in Wilkes County, son of the late John Dan and Mamie Vannoy Gettys. Bruce was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Gettys was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Merchant Marines. He was a custom home builder and owner for 52 years of Gettys Construction Company, Inc., building in and around the Charlotte area. Bruce enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, and Bible study. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord from 7 until 8:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Latin American Campus, 7424 East WT Harris Blvd., Charlotte on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11 AM. Burial will be at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Caudill Gettys, of the home; son, Reggie Gettys and wife, Jean, of Matthews; daughters, Betsy Gettys Smith, of Concord and April Gettys Feeney and husband, Tim, of Harrisburg; brother, Parks Gettys, of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Heather Gettys Longbrook and husband, Nathan, Alisha Gettys, Danny Smith and wife, Elizabeth, Wesley Smith and wife, Noelle, Timothy Smith and wife, Monica, Benjamin Andrew Smith, Christina Smith, Chase Feeney, and Kyle Feeney; and great granddaughters, Emma, Kaitlyn, and Sara Smith. Bruce had a loving devotion to his family and a passion for seeing others come to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
