Andrew Stewart, Sr

Andrew "Hope" Stewart, Sr., 81 years of age, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at his home.
Mr. Stewart was born October 30, 1934 in Charlotte, NC to the late William Means Stewart and the late G. Elizabeth Linker Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James E. Stewart and Mark A. Stewart; as well as sisters, Mary Lena Stewart Stafford and Nancy Jane Stewart.
Survivors include his son, Andrew Hope Stewart, Jr. & wife, Lisa of Pumpkin Center, NC; daughter, Janice Stewart Thigpen & husband, Frank of Harrisburg, NC; grandchildren, Andrew "Drew" Stewart III, J. Lane Stewart, Sarah Anne Stewart, Jeb Ethan Stewart, Emma Leigh Stewart, Savannah Hope Thigpen, Stewart "Buzz" Guy Thigpen, Sawyer Royce Thigpen, Jonathan Harris Byrd and Adam David Byrd; brothers, William Means Stewart, Jr. and Benjamin Franklin Stewart; sister, Ann Stewart Stilwell; special friend, Judy Pitts; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A.H. "Hope" graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1954. He proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1958 to 1959 with Tank Company 1st Battalion, 11th Armored Cavalry. When he returned home he worked and owned A.H. Stewart Landscaping & Grading, Inc. for over 35 years, while at the same time he operated a farm and a herd of 80 cattle. His farm and cows were a hobby that he treasured right up until his passing. He was a dedicated member of Newell Baptist Church for most of his life, where he served on building and grounds. He was instrumental in overseeing the construction and donated the "Hope" Elevator in the Lord's name. He was a member of Broadus Baptist Church. He loved his church and church family. A.H. was a Mason and a lifetime member of the Mecklenburg Shrine Club. He was a member of the North Mecklenburg Farm Group, and enjoyed his annual farm trip since 1959, never missing a year. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Monday, June 6, 2016 at Broadus Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at Broadus Baptist Church, 59 Green Street, Concord, officiated by Dr. Rev. Rodney Quesenberry. Burial will follow at Newell Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 1500 Rocky River Road West, Charlotte, NC 28213
with full military honors.
