Arthur Hammonds, Jr

Arthur Hammonds, Jr., 92 years of age, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. Andrews Living Center in Concord.
Arthur was born April 18, 1924 in Oglethorpe, Georgia to Arthur Johnson Hammonds and Laura Kidd Hammonds who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lee Hammonds; daughter, Karen Keaton; son-in-law, Robert Keaton; son, Gerald Arthur Hammonds and wife Teresa Foster Hammonds; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his niece Laura Penninger; companion, Velve Misenheimer; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Arthur proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of WWII. He served in South Africa, Germany, Italy, and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of eight medals including a Purple Heart.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Carlin Ours. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
