August Bonamici

August Albert Bonamici, 87, of Indian Trail, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe.

Augie was born July 15, 1934 in New York to the late Robert Bonamici and the late Ida Bonamici.

He was also preceded in death by wife, Theresa Bonamici; brothers, Al Bonamici and John Bonamici.

August served in the United States Army as a Private First Class in Fort Dix, New Jersey as well as Puerto Rico. He also served as a boxer at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Augie was very proud of his service to his country. He loved sports, as well as jogging, bike riding, boxing, fishing, softball, swimming, and bowling. The last year of his life was filled with joy spending time with family and having family parties, BBQ's, and holiday events together. He loved spending time in the country and going on rides viewing the scenery in North Carolina. Augie absolutely loved the family dogs who he even had his own special names for Bentley "Baxter", Emily "Emmy",and his favorite,Winston "The little Devil Dog," as well as his neighbor's dog "Boo-boo". He would always say "People need animals more than animals need people."

The family will have a private Celebration of Life.

Survivors include daughter, Lucille (Brian Sr.) Ehlers of Indian Trail, NC; grandson, Brian Jr. Ehlers; granddaughter, Dawn (Danny Gottschall) Ehlers; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Daniel, Kaylee, Derick, and Dailynn; great-great-grandchildren, Briella and Colby Jr.; step-family, daughter, Donna (Jeff) Scott; granddaughter, Cheryl (Michael) DeRosa; great grandchildren, Ricky, Ryan, Dillon and Dionna; granddaughter, Dainya Augustine; greatgrandchildren, Amanda (Tom) Parello and Joey Bowling; son, Ray (Jackie) Perrone; grandchildren, Jessica, Rachel, and Jason.
