Barbara Cox

Barbara Jean Whitley Cox, 81, of New Salem, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.

Barbara was born January 24, 1940 in North Carolina to the late Relas Addison Whitley and the late Osie Cordelia Kiker Whitley.
She was also preceded in death by daughter, Pamela Jean Lowery; son, William "Eddie" Killough; brothers, Ray Whitley, Dub Whitley; sister, Jennie Mae Kiker; and an infant sister.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.

Survivors include sons, Ney Killough of Marshville, NC, Allen (Beth) Killough of New Salem, NC, and Daniel Cox of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Brenda Brooks; sister, Frances Strube; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara will be remembered as a strong-willed and self-sufficient woman, who in spite of life's struggles successfully raised five children and several grandchildren by herself. She had a tenacious life spirit and determination that allowed her to overcome several accidents and health issues that she survived against the odds. Barbara had a fierce love for her family and she will always be loved and remembered dearly.
