Barbara Greene

Barbara Jean Greene, 80, of Monroe, passed away Monday, November 4, 2019.

Barbara was born September 15, 1939 in Stanly County to the late Farrell and Jessie Thomas Tucker of Locust.  She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Manuel and Dora Thomas; paternal grandparent, Mary Belle Tucker and great-grandson Silas Deason.

She was previously married to Harold Greene of Locust, NC and together they had three children; Lisa Greene of Locust, Lori Greene Keziah and husband, Doug of Monroe, and Levi Greene and wife, Dee of Locust.

In addition to her children, Barbara leaves behind nine grandchildren; Lauren Deason, Joshua Deason & wife Brittany, Landon Keziah & wife Cheryl, Cameron Keziah, Chloe Keziah, Charity Keziah, Bridgette Greene, Sean Greene and Anson Greene; great grandchildren; Dallas Allen, Jaelyne Deason, Kamley Mortensen, Hadley Keziah, and Holland Deason; many friends and relatives, and a special friend in Christ, Robbie Belk and wife, Shanda.

Barbara worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years, beginning at age 14. While with the US Postal Service, she worked in Post Offices in Locust and Monroe and was the Postmaster in Ansonville, NC when she retired. She also worked for many years as a volunteer EMT in Locust as part of what would eventually become West Stanly EMS.

Barbara was a member of Unionville Baptist Church.  In the past, she was a charter member of Carolina Presbyterian Church in Locust, and a charter member of Harmony Baptist Church in Stanfield.  She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, and Women’s Bible Study Group Leader.

The family will receive friends from  6:00 - 8:00 pm, on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service officiated by Pastor Hank Parker will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 2:00 pm, at Unionville Baptist Church, 510 Baucom Rd. Monroe. Burial will follow at the Carolina Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 406 Renee Ford Road, Locust.
