Barbara Howie

Barbara Ann Winecoff Howie, 87, of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Howie was born June 4, 1924 in Cabarrus County to the late Hugh Cochran Winecoff and Mertie Myers Winecoff. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the Women of the Church. She was a long time member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher at Rocky River Presbyterian Church. She loved to work in her flower garden and to sew. She was a wonderful storyteller. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, at Rocky River Presbyterian Church followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Rev. Dr. Kyle Hite will officiate. At other times, the family will meet at the home of her daughter Harriette, at 9808 Hickory Ridge Road, Harrisburg. Survivors include her husband, of 61 years, Ben Johnston Howie of the home; her son, William Howie and his wife, Birgitta of Cary; her daughters, Imogene Herman of Taylorsville and Harriette Jakiela and her husband, Edward of Harrisburg; her grandchildren, Marshall Newman, Greg Newman, Jeffrey Newman, Jonathan Howie and his wife, Jessica, Julia Howie, Linnea Howie and Ben Jakiela; and one great-granddaughter, Allison Newman.
