Barbara Newsome

Barbara Janice Langston Newsome, 77, of Pfafftown, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at her son, Britt Newsome's home in New London.

Jan was born June 3, 1939 in Goldsboro to the late John "Jack" Franklin Langston and the late Louise Ella Parker Langston. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Jim B. Newsome, II, who passed away in 1996.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm, Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 28774 NC 24/27 Hwy, Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Brad Hinton. The graveside service will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, February 13, 2017 Wayne Memorial Park, Hwy 117 South, Goldsboro.

She is survived by her son, James Britt Newsome, III and wife Jo Ellen of New London; daughter, Louise Lee Newsome Uno and husband Stanley of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, James Craig Langston and wife Janet of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Langston and Jameson Uno of Salt Lake City, UT, Jonathan and Catherine Newsome of New London; and nephews, David and Marc Langston.

Jan was a graduate of East Carolina University, and dedicated her life to working as an elementary school teacher for the Clinton City School System. Before getting married she worked for Girl Scouts of America. The last few years she has spent being "the reading lady" for the play school at her church. Jan was also a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, and provided support throughout her life. She loved painting, spending time spoiling her grandkids, watching UNC basketball, and drinking her unsweetened tea. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.
