Barbara Purser

March 12, 1923 — March 22, 2015

Barbara Haas Purser, 92 years of age, of Monroe, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Autumn Care in Marshville, NC.

Ms. Purser was born March 12, 1923 in Bronx, New York to the late Ambrose Bishop Haas and the late Bertha Mae Haas.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Louie Malion Purser; grandson Douglas Irby, and son-in-law Lane Baucom.

Survivors include her son, Butch Purser and wife Cindi; daughters Carol Ann Baucom and Katherine Irby; brother Icky Haas, sister Florence Stevens; grandchildren Tanya McPhaul, Barry Baucom, Kyle Purser and Robin Irby; as well as three great-grandchildren and great-niece Kathy Hooks.

During WWII, Barbara served her country as a Rosie the Riveter at Westoverfield Air Force Base in Massachusetts, where she met her husband Louie, and married him on Veteran's Day. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. A special thank you to Karen Helms and the staff at Hillcrest Rest Home, as well as the nurses at Autumn Care Nursing Home.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Zion United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Fish Road in Monroe, officiated by Rev. John Stein. Burial will follow at the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the burial.

Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church.
