On Friday, December 18, 2020, Barbara Ann Welker, loving wife and mother of four children, joined her husband and best friend, Bill, in Eternal Rest at the age of 89, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Barbara was born on May 9, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Frank Janus and Margaret Petershack Janus, the oldest of three children. She graduated from Mercy High School in 1950 and married the late William "Bill" Welker on August 19, 1951. They lived in Wisconsin and New Jersey before settling down in Charles Town, West Virginia, where she shared her many God given talents with her family, friends, and community.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who was proud to create a comfortable home for her family, filled with homemade crafts, jams, jellies, baked goods, and meals from different international cuisines. In addition to sewing Halloween costumes for her children and creating keepsakes for her grandchildren, she participated in church and community events, and was a member of the Tuscawilla Garden Club, serving as the President for several years. She enjoyed traveling and explored all 50 states, as well as most of Europe, with her husband. Barbara will be remembered for her smile, her quiet, gentle spirit, and devotion to her husband of 68 years.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Catherine (Donald) Salge, and Carol (Joseph) Diaz; sons, William (Amy) Welker, and Robert (Deanna) Welker; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
