Bayne James Clontz, 94, of Indian Trail, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at his home. Mr. Clontz was born June 21, 1918 in Union County to the late Oscar James Clontz and Leo Elizabeth Helms Clontz. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hayes and Lynn Clontz and his sisters, Jewel Dunagan and Faye Clontz. Bayne was an active member of his church and served as a Deacon and RA leader. He was an auditor for the City of Charlotte Airport Division and a proud veteran of WWII, serving with Patton and the D-Day Invasion at Omaha Beach. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 at Hopewell Baptist Church at 420 Hopewell Church Road of Monroe. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 Friday, at Hopewell Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Lee Pigg with Brian Austin assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Sarah Catherine Hinson Clontz, of the home; his son, Iwan Clontz and his wife, Sharon, of Monroe; his grandsons, Michael and Matthew Clontz and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Gandy and husband, Jon.
