Benjamin Tillman Stegall, Jr. of Locust, formerly of Midland, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. Mr. Stegall was born June 1, 1926 in Union County to the late Benjamin Tillman Stegall, Sr. and Annie Louetra Stegall . In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce,and a grandson, Timothy. Mr. Stegall served in the US Army during WWII. He worked at Baxter's Men's Clothing Store; then at ABC Machinery; and retired from PMI in Harrisburg after 22 years service. He was a charter member of United Love Baptist Church, Midland, NC, where he served in various capacities. He went on mission trips in the states and several countries overseas with the N.C. Baptist Men. Mr Stegall's passion was mowing!!! He mowed at the Belk Boy Scout Camp where he said it was just him and the Lord in those beautiful meadows at the camp. He mowed grass many summers at Fort Caswell, the Baptist Children's Camp near Southport, NC. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties. Any time someone had a need, he was always there to help. The family will receive friends at United Love Baptist Church, 11487 Flowes Store Road, Midland, NC on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 1 until 2 pm. The funeral service will follow at the church at 2 pm, officiated by Rev. Marvin Tyson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Libby McManus Stegall; daughter, DeAnne (Jeff) Parker of Mt. Pleasant; grandson, David; and sisters, Doris, Vivian, and Evelyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Love Baptist Church, Children's Playground Fund, 11487 Flowes Store Road, Midland, NC 28107; Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, 1701 South Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081; or Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland is serving the Stegall family.
