Mr. Benny Mack Cook, 68, of Concord passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at his residence. Born on March 1, 1942 in Cabarrus County to Aileen Simpson Cook and the late Harry Lee Cook. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord on Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be on Monday, June 21, 2010 at West Concord Cemetery at 11:00 am with Rev. George Townsend officiating. Military honors will be performed by Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family meeting place will be the home. He served our country in the US Navy. He was a retired security guard and attended Friendship Southern Baptist Church. He was a professional wrestler with the SWA. He was a heavy weight champion known as "Bruiser" Ben Cook. Ben was an avid golfer and enjoyed gospel and country music. He loved to play all string instruments. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Benton Cook, of the home; daughter, Terri Cook Featherstone, of Monroe; step daughter, Robin Barbee Stancil and husband, Jeff, of Concord; step son, Scotty Dale Barbee, of Kannapolis; mother, Aileen Simpson Cook, of Concord; brother, Mark Cook and wife, Joan, of Concord; sisters, Peggy Cook Harrington and husband, Larry, of Kannapolis and Dianne Hopkins Johnson and husband, Johnny, of Concord; grandchildren, Jessica Aileen Featherstone and Elijah Daniel Featherstone; step grandchildren, Jennifer Stancil Bond and husband, Randall and Tracie Stancil Jarrell and husband, Steven. The family wishes to thank the Concord Fire Department and Cabarrus County EMS for the special care that he often received from them. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cabarrus County Fireman’s Association, PO Box 1292, Concord, NC 28026.
