B. Max Sides, 82, of Harrisburg, NC, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in Concord, NC. Mr. Sides was born February 26, 1929, to his father, the late Jernie Lee Sides, his mother, the late Nola Helms Sides, and his stepmother, the late Mary Ophelia McCachren Sides. He graduated from Concord High School and attended Riverside Military Academy. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and served for four years stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, and served on rescue missions. Mr. Sides was vice president of Piedmont Bank & Trust in Locust and went on to own a construction company and built many homes in the Harrisburg area. He later owned and retired from Harrisburg Hardware. He was interested in aviation and had his pilot’s license. The family will receive friends 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, officiated by Rev. Mark Clontz. He is survived by his wife, Katharin “Kappy†Rachel Green Sides, of the home; son, Worth Lee Sides of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Katharin Sides Morrison and husband, Tab, of Midland; brother, Ronald Sides and wife, Kay, of Lake Norman; sisters, Betty McCachern and husband, Jack, of Denver, NC, Pat Propst of Asheville, NC, and Deane Stokes of Colfax, NC; grandchildren, Dylan Morrison and wife, Ashley, Evan Morrison, and Jordan Morrison; great-granddaughter, Harper Grace Morrison; and eight nephews and six nieces. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast for the wonderful care he received.
