Bernie Kirk Hatfield, 76, of Concord, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Bernie was born October 16, 1944 in Alabama to the late Robert Foster Hatfield and Naomi Hatfield.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Louise H. Campbell and brother in law Bennie "Shorty" Waters.
From a farming background in Alabama, Bernie moved northward to North and South Carolina, working in management for Pepsi Cola and Stewart Sandwich Company before spending the last 20+ years at Special Service Air Freight Company in Charlotte, where he was warehouse manager.
He loved his church, United Love Baptist, where he was a longtime member, serving as Usher, children’s Sunday School teacher and committee member. He also enjoyed the prayer breakfasts with the men’s group when he was able to attend.
Married to his beloved wife Shayne for thirty-three years, they were a blended family, and his love and caring concern reached from his Alabama to North Carolina families and all in-between. Family meant the world to him, friends a close second. He saw the good in everyone and had the unique talent of connecting with each individual and making that person feel special. He had a giving and generous spirit, and he always, always put others before himself. There was so much humility and grace in how he lived his life, especially in the later years. Yet he was also spirited and fun and just plain enjoyed people! His sparkling blue eyes and his sweet smile literally lit up a room.
Some additional things he loved included fishing, sports (especially watching kids play), nature’s small miracles, travel with family, boiled peanuts (it’s a Southern thing, y’all!), and, of course, his Clemson Tigers!
The family will have a Lie In State Wednesday, January 6 from 2-5 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The family will have a Private Burial Thursday and will have a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.
Survivors include wife, Shayne Ritchie Hatfield, son, Clay Ritchie Hatfield (Nicole), daughters, Paula Hatfield Pharis (Joe), Rhonda Hatfield Rankin (Tex), stepsons, Brian K. Greene (Jill), E.
