Bertha Mae Lorch Andrews, 93 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle. Mrs. Andrews was born February 18, 1919 in Stanly County to the late Joseph Lorch and Ida Jane Bowers Lorch Huneycutt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, of 47 years, James Arthur Andrews; her sisters, Esther Cline, Lucille Page, and Barbara Lorch; and her brothers, Cletus, Aaron and Josh Lorch. She worked for years at the old Lillian Hosiery Mill and then taught ceramics for the City Recreation Department in the 1960s. She retired from Pages Church Furniture where she sewed cushions for the church pews. She was a very talented and artistic person. She loved china painting and doing stain glass work. She especially loved gardening. She was a member of the Stanly County Arts Guild and the Day Lily Society. She had hybridized day lilies which she named for her great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday, in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Lanny Lancaster. Interment will follow in the Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. At other times, the family will meet at the home of her daughter, Phyllis Huneycutt at 32124 Pennington Road of Albemarle. Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Andrews Huneycutt, of Albemarle; her brothers, Melvin Lorch of Oakboro and Joseph Lorch, Jr. of Albemarle; her grandchildren, Donna Cranford and her husband, Lynn of New London, Patty Cline and her husband, Jeff, of Jenkintown, PA, Doug Michael and his wife, Brenda, of New London, Jeff Michael and his wife, Autumn, of Davidson, and Chris Michael and his wife, Kim, of Rochester, NY; her step-granddaughter, Joy Castaneda of Concord; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-step-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and three step-great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hillside Baptist Church, 930 Concord Road, Albemarle, NC 28001 or Stony Hill United Methodist Church, 28996 Stony Hill Road, Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Andrews family.
