Bertha Velma Hays Wilkinson, 69 years of age, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her home. Bertha was born November 5, 1944 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Wilbur Robert Hays and the late Mallie Vena Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Joseph Wilkinson, who passed away in 2005; and her stepfather, Herbert Anderson. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Mullis and husband Delane of Mount Pleasant; grandsons, Zachary Eaton of SC, Delane "Laney" Mullis, and William "Bill" Mullis, both Mt. Pleasant; brothers, James Tutwiler and wife Terri of Arkansas, William Hays and wife Barbara of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Bertha received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Warwick Fine Arts College in 2002. She was a big supporter of the arts in Stanly County. She was active in the American Legion and the Stanly County Extension and Community Association. She was an avid reader and member of the Locust Book Club. Bertha enjoyed traveling through out her life and never met a stranger. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Wilkinson family.
