Bessie Mills

Bessie Fowler Mills, 88, of Midland, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Bessie was born October 27, 1933 in Union County, North Carolina to the late Marvin Monroe Fowler and the late Martha Mary Jordan Fowler.
She was also preceded in death by husband, Ray Junior Mills; brothers, Marvin Fowler, Robert Fowler, Frank Fowler, and Clifford Fowler; and sisters, Zyll Bigham, Margaret Wall, and Annie Fowler.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Thursday, May 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Midland. The funeral service will immediately follow on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Midland officiated by Rev. Tom Gibbs. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Cemetery at 4720 Garmon Mill Rd., Midland.

Prior to the service the family will recieve friends at the home of Bessie's daughter, Shirley Barbee.

Survivors include daughter, Shirley (Tom) Barbee of Locust, NC, son, Dennis (Tammy) Mills of Oakboro, NC; grandchildren, Denika (Bryan) Coley, Brad (Becky) Barbee, Josh (Kelly) Barbee; great-grandchildren, Hunter Coley and Hayley Coley.

Bessie was a very loving and caring wife and mother and was also known as a wonderful MawMaw. She loved spending time with her family. As a young child Bessie grew up on a farm picking cotton and because of that  experience she always loved to work in her vegetable garden and enjoyed mowing and tilling. She had a great work ethic that she instilled into her children and they passed that on to their own children. Bessie also had a passion for working with the children at the Howell Center where she was a housekeeper.
