Bessie Spivey

Bessie Jane Hill Spivey, 73 years of age, of Albemarle, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, August 22, 2016 at her home after a long illness.

Bessie was born May 20, 1943 in Stanly County to the late Doyce Coolidge Hill and the late Sunnie Mae Mauldin Hill. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lorie Spivey; and grandchildren, Tania Morgan and Jeffery Farmer.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Centerview Baptist Church, 508 NE Connector, Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Todd Galloway and Rev. Jessie Dennis. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Rev. Charles Douglas Spivey of the home; son, Chuck Spivey of Albemarle; daughters, Pam Herbert and husband Jeff of Albemarle, Kimberly Farmer and husband Zeke of Albemarle, Linda Cook of Murrells Inlet, SC; sister, Carol Starnes and husband Ronnie of Oakboro; brother, Jimmy Hill and wife Diane of Oakboro; seven grandchildren, Lauren Burris, Chad Cook, Summer Cook, Stephanie Sides, Bethany Harding, Ethan Spivey, Maddie Spivey, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bessie was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a faithful member of Centerview Baptist Church. She was active in her church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, and as choir and youth director. Bessie enjoyed doing crafts, painting, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a special person that showed a lot of love and compassion. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.
