Betty Barnhardt
June 27, 1934 — December 24, 2015
Betty Cook Barnhardt, 81, of Concord, NC passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on December 24, 2015, after a short illness.
Born in Cabarrus County to the late Clarence Harley Cook and Dora Eudy Cook. Also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years George E. Barnhardt; her son, Christopher Barnhardt; two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Barnhardt is survived by daughters, Beverly Miller (Ed) of Concord, Kimberly Wilder (Jerry) of Florida and Debra Barnhardt of Concord; daughter-in-law, Cindy Barnhardt of Concord; sister, Daphne "Pat" Sapp of Florida; brother-in-law, John T. Smith of Concord; ten grandchildren, Mason Williams, Adam Williams, Sara Williams (Matt), Mandy Goodman (Brand), Natalie Covington (Noah), Patrick Widenhouse, Josh Barnhardt (Anna), Samantha Shue (Brandan), Kristina Barnhardt and Kendyl Christenbury (Brandon); eleven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Barnhardt graduated from Winecoff High School and retired from Allstate Insurance Company where she was a recipient of the coveted Good Hands Award. She is a member of St. James The Greater Catholic Church where she served as an active member of the Women's Guild.
Always willing to lend a hand, Mrs. Barnhardt served her community in many capacities over the years as an avid volunteer, member, and/or officer of numerous clubs and organizations including Cabarrus County Senior Center, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council, RGAAC Representative, Salvation Army Food Bank, Family Friends Program, Cold Water ECA, Maggie Cress Club of Cold Water Creek, New Gilead Young at Hearts, Hospice Colunteer Program, Meals on Wheels of Cabarrus County and the Jimmy Murphy Christmas. She also had a keen sence for adventure, tracel and meeting new people.
A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord on December 28, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Services will follow in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 pm, with Father Jerome and Rev. Faye McRorie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. James The Greater Catholic Church Cemetery Fund, 139 Manor Ave. SW., Concord, NC 28025 or Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
