Betty Frances Morgan, 82, of Midland, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at New Hanover Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington.
Mrs. Morgan was born September 1, 1936 in North Carolina to the late John Lambert and the late Rosetta Lambert.
You were the most selfless person we’ve ever known, never living your life for you, but always putting the needs of others first. You took care of your three kids, you often took care of your sweet husband Ray, and as time passed, you took care of your grandchildren and helped to raise them. And oh how you loved your great-grandchildren.
Family gatherings at your house were so special because they were a time when we were all together, we could be ourselves, and we knew GranBetty would have cooked some of her famous Fudge pies - a must for all get-togethers.
A Christian woman who raised her children in church, she could occasionally be harsh of tongue. She would often combine her children’s names into one “Cathy-Angie-Chip-you know which one you are.”
Some of her grandchildren’s fondest memories are spending time watching movies on her old Beta machine. They would watch a few of the same ones over and over - Goonies and Terms of Endearment- and they memorized every line.
As she and Ray got older, they needed more help. Well, if you know anything about Ray, you know he was a little bit stubborn, so it took a little convincing to make him see that moving in with Darrell and Angie was the right thing for them at the right time.
What can you say about the way Darrell took care of our sweet GranBetty? Their relationship was based on respect and an understanding that few others got. He always seemed to know what she needed before she did. He took her to every doctors appointment- if you saw her, you saw him.
Our beloved GranBetty was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all who knew her.
She leaves behind loving siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom received many blessings through having GranBetty in their life.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband of 62 years Ray Morgan; and her only son, Chip Morgan, who died in January of 2018.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be at Bethel United Methodist Church, 12700 Idlebrook Road, Midland, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Mark Clontz The family will receive friends from 3 - 4 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dr. Robert Fales Hospice Pavilion - Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
