Lucille was born May 15, 1932 in Union County, North Carolina to the late Lum Croson Furr and the late Ruby Lee Furr.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Alfred Rayvon McDonald; her sister, Rachel Helms; and her brothers, Bobby H. Furr, and J.C. Buster Furr.
Lucille was a devoted Christian and it was evident in her lifelong service at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to being a Scout Leader for the boys, she also lead the children's church choir for a number of years. She faithfully sang in the Oak Ridge choir beginning early on in her youth into her seventies. Lucille loved working in the garden and tending to her flowers, where she grew Daylilies, green beans, corn, and much more. Lucille was an avid cook and baker, making chicken pie and coconut cakes. In her younger years she sang in the Oak Ridge Quartet, where they sang in churches throughout North and South Carolina as well as local radio stations.
Lucille was very family-oriented and doted on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known for keeping oatmeal cookies in her pantry for her grandchildren, who lovingly called them "cookie cakes." During Christmas, she made sugar cookies which she called her "Teacakes," and she made sure her entire family received a box.
Lucille will always be remembered for being an amazing daughter, wife, mother, "Mamaw," sister, and friend.
