Betty Whitley

Betty Austin Whitley, 90, of Oakboro, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.

Betty was born January 29, 1933, in North Carolina to the late Pearl and Colon Austin.
She was also preceded in death by husband, Thurman J. Whitley, and brothers, Cecil and Shelton Austin.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Monday, April 3, 2023, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 3 pm, officiated by Dr. Kinney Wallace. Burial will follow at the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at 4694 NC-205, Oakboro.

Betty was a life-long member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ for over 60 years.  After she retired from Stanly County Schools as an accountant, she enjoyed day trips with the seniors from her church and traveling with a small group of friends to Nashville, Niagra Falls, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam and many other well known locations.

Survivors include sons, Terrel Gene Whitley, Michael (Suzette) Austin Whitley, Ricky (Vickie) Wayne Whitley; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
