Billy Hugh Carter, 89 years of age, of Concord, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. Andrews Living Center in Concord. Billy was born August 20, 1924 in North Carolina to the late John Oliver Carter and the late Lillie Mae Dry Carter. He was also preceded in death by wife, Audrey Green Carter; sister, Anna Mae Jenkins. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Rodney Quesenberry. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Survivors include sisters, Latha Barrier of Concord and Betty Frye of Concord; special nephew, James "Sonny" Auten and wife Kaye of Concord. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and spoke often. Bill was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army in Europe. He received the American Theater Service Medal; EAME Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was gain fully employed with Edgecombe Steel for over 25 years.
