Billy Vance Howell, Sr., 80, of Telford, TN, formerly of Concord, NC, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am, Monday, February 2, 2015, at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC, with Charles Reeder officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Born on November 9, 1934, in Cabarrus County, NC, Mr. Howell was the son of the late John Adam Howell and Myrtle Samantha Haigler Howell. He was formerly employed with Concord Telephone and Turner Baxter Painting Company. He was a member of the Oasis Shriners and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and also a member of the Stokes Lodge #32 in Concord. He was a former member of Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church in Concord where he served as a scout leader. He also served in the U.S. Infantry at Fort Richardson in Anchorage Alaska from 1958-1960 prior to it becoming a state.
Mr. Howell is survived by his daughter, Amanda Stone, of Concord, NC;, son, Billy Vance Howell, Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Concord, NC;, sister, Pat Love, of Concord, NC;, brothers, John Howell, of Concord, NC, Tony Howell, of China Grove, NC, Keith Howell, of Concord, NC;, grandchildren, Sarah Howell, Anna Howell, Bobby Stone, Jr. and wife, Brittany, Kevin Stone, great grandchildren, Jaydon Stone, Brooklyn Stone, and 10 nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, NC, and other times at the home of his son, Vance Howell, 5124 Navion Place, Concord, NC.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bill's caregiver, Lee Snead and her family, who lovingly cared for Bill for the last 28 years of his life.
