Billy Fetzer Love of Concord passed away September 23, 2014 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Madeline "Pat" Howell Love of Concord, son L. Alan Love and wife Beth of Chesterland, Ohio and their children Laura, Karl and Ryan; son Roger H. Love of Concord and his son Steven; sister Elaine Love Scroggs and husband Fleetwood Scroggs of Richmond, Virginia; brother James O. Love and wife Sylvia Love of Pensacola, Florida.
Bill was born January 27, 1929 in Stanly County, North Carolina to Samuel Oscar Love and Docie Little Love. Just prior to his 17th birthday, Bill joined the U.S. Navy on a two year enlistment program. Following basic training in San Diego, California he was sent to Japan as part of the U.S. Occupation Force where he served the remainder of his enlistment. He received an honorable discharge and returned to North Carolina.
Returning to the Concord area he completed high school and then attended night school while working several, concurrent jobs. He finished night school, earning his degree in accounting. In the late 1950s he joined Hilbish Motors (initially with Concord Ford) and became General Manager, serving in this capacity until his retirement in 2000.
Bill held service roles in the Concord area including the Lions Club, President of the Harrisburg Parent-Teachers Association, Master of Stokes Masonic Lodge, Certified Lecturer (for North Carolina Masons) for over fifty years, District Deputy Grand Lecturer, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Shriners and others. He also volunteered for and participated in many other community organizations including Meals on Wheels and Jackson Park Volunteer Board of Directors. He enjoyed golf with a long term group of friends, riding, collecting and competitively showing motorcycles. He and Pat enjoyed their beach and lake houses, along with their children and grandchildren, family and many friends. Bill and Pat were members of Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church for over 45 years.
The family will receive at Hartsell Funeral Home on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 1 pm with services beginning at 2 pm. The Rev. Tamara Wensil will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
