Bobbie Smart

Bobbie "Dean" Smart, 79 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 at CMC NorthEast in Concord, NC. Dean was born January 22, 1934 in Albemarle to the late George Bennett Smart and the late Ethel Smart . He was also preceded in death by one brother, George Smart; and three sisters, Arlene Harwood, Rodeth Bowers, and Sue Smart. Dean joined the United States Army in 1953 and served in the armed forces for 30 years until he retired from the Army Reserves in 1983. He spent three of his years in the service stationed in Germany. He enjoyed knives, guns, and deer hunting. He loved his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 6-8pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 at 2pm at Vine Life Baptist Church, 24655 Saint Martin Rd, Albemarle. The service will be officiated by Rev Gary Hunsucker. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakboro. At other times the family will receive friends at their home. Survivors include wife of 60 years, Bessie Louise Smart of Albemarle, NC; one daughter, Donna (Leon) Huneycutt of Stanfield; two sons, Mike (Becky) Smart of Mt Pleasant, and David (Carla) Smart of Albemarle; one sister, Teen Barbee of Shelby; six grandchildren, Bradley, Brent, and Brittany Huneycutt; Christy Conner; and Michael Jr. and Casey Smart; and nine great-grandchildren.. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First Street Albemarle, NC 28001; or Vine Life Baptist Church, 24655 Saint Martin Rd, Albemarle 28002.
