Bobby Harkey

Bobby Lee Harkey, 82, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Atrium Health Stanly in Albemarle.

Bob was born May 29, 1936 in Stanly County to the late Grady Lee and Bessie Bell Harkey.

Bob was the most generous soul you could  meet and never met a stranger.  He would give anyone the shirt off his back. He was the most patriotic man in the world, being very proud of serving his country in Germany. He enjoyed being with family, grilling for everyone, and loved his church and the church family. He served as a Mason and a Shriner for many years.  Bob was also an avid bee keeper, and gardener. One of his joys was to plow anyone's garden that needed help.

The family will receive friends from 5pm - 8pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at 2pm at Canton Baptist Church in Albemarle officiated by Dr. Mark Mabry and Dr. Phil McRae. Burial will follow at the Canton Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include wife of 61 years, Marlene Harkey; daughter, Rhonda Harkey; granddaughter, Tabitha Alanis; great-granddaughter, Isabella (Izzy) Alanis; sister, Betty Moore; brothers, Doug (Annette), and Gene (Linda) Harkey.  He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and cousins.
