Bonnie Rivera

Bonnie Rivera completed her final challenge on May 10, 2017. She fought a heroic 16 year battle with cancer. Giving into despair was never an attribute she accepted. She staunchly felt losing one battle never meant quitting the fight. And she fought furiously for one more day with her family, one more day to be together. Hope, determination, and courage were attributes she conveyed to us each day.

Mrs. Rivera’s professional career included 39 years of service with the NC Public School System, the majority of that time with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg system. Teaching was her passion; the staff her friends; and the students her joy. If her health had allowed, she would have continued teaching for many more years.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Rafael C. Rivera; her son, Joshua H. Rivera (her forever “son-shine”) and his wife Whitney Anne Rivera (her beloved “daughter”); two precious grandchildren, Alexander and Lillianna Rivera (her greatest blessings); and a sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Hersey Hall. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, George Earl and Christine Edge Hall of Fayetteville, NC

Services will be held Saturday, May 13, 1 pm, at Empowered Love Ministries International, 282 N. Church St., Concord, NC 28025.
