Boyd Mcwhirter

Boyd Franklin McWhirter, age 81, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away at home on Sunday, April 29, 2012, while surrounded by his loving and caring family. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Dulin’s Grove Advent Christian Church, 11200 Arlington Church Road, Charlotte. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Rev. Matt Broadway will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Mr. McWhirter was born April 3, 1931, to the late Edward Alexander and Ethel Neese McWhirter. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine Woods and Evelyn Flowe, and two brothers, Lloyd and Ed McWhirter. He is survived by his High School sweetheart that became his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Julia Mae Williams McWhirter; three sons, Dale McWhirter and wife, Cathey, of Wingate, Jerry McWhirter of Myrtle Beach, and Roger McWhirter and wife, Margaret, of Mint Hill; one daughter, Brenda Benton and husband, Yates, of Mint Hill; ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild; two brothers, Bill and John McWhirter, both of Mint Hill; and one sister, Joyce Wilson, of Monroe. Mr. McWhirter was a lifetime resident of Mecklenburg County. He retired from Overnite Transportation. He loved to spend time with his family and work in his garden.
