Brendon Lee Almond, 76, of Charlotte, passed away at home on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
Brendon was born December 8, 1945, in Albemarle to the late Leroy and Ruth Almond. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Danny L. Almond.
Brendon graduated from North Stanly High School in 1964. After high school, he was drafted into the US Army from 1965 to 1967, where he served as a Specialist 5th Class in Taipei, Taiwan. Following his service to our country, Brendon was employed by Southern Bell for 30 years, where he began his employment as a cable splicer and retired as a crew supervisor. Following retirement from Southern Bell, Brendon spent the next year volunteering his time helping build Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where he spent many long days doing what came naturally, supervising construction with keen attention to detail, which resulted in a beautiful church building. When the church was complete, Brendon continued to work another 17 years as a civilian employee with Mecklenburg County Police, which transitioned into the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, where family members, including both his son and son-in-law, were police officers. Brendon rounded out his employment at Lowes Home Improvement, where he found joy in helping customers with tools and construction projects. Brendon’s favorite activities were fishing, gardening, and making homemade, hand-churned, ice-cream, but his favorite pastime was enjoying getaways at the beach and spending quality time with his family. He was an honorable man and will be dearly missed and forever loved.
Brendon is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Anita Hare Almond, of Charlotte; son, Benjamin "Brad" Bradley Almond and wife, Jessica, of Charlotte; daughter, Melissa Anne Almond and husband, James, of Caswell Beach; and 6 adoring grandchildren, Parker, Jacob, London, Chase, Annalee, and Axton.
