Brian Helms

August 5, 1978 — April 25, 2010

Brian Lane Helms, age 31, of 22202 Oakwood Road, Albemarle, NC 28001, passed away on April 25, 2010 at his home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9, Thursday, April 29 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Funeral service will be at 2 pm, Friday, April 30 at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sammy Case officiating. Burial will be at Norview Gardens, Indian Mound Road, Norwood, NC. He was born August 5, 1978 in Mecklenburg County, he is the son of Eddie and Linnie Helms of Albemarle. He is also survived by his son, Hunter Lane Helms of Albemarle; brothers, Kelly Helms and wife Susan of Mooresville and Todd Helms and wife Jennie of New London; sister, Shana Helms and husband Tony of Locust; best friend, Chris Hudson of Albemarle; nieces and nephews, Jacob and Reagan Helms, McKayla, Gavin and Nathan Helms, Kristin and Jace Helms; and his girlfriend of six years, Tanya Lisk of Mt. Pleasant and her son, Kameron Tucker, whom Brian loved and helped raise. Brian Helms was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Ruby Perrell and Lester Wilburn and Annie Lee Helms. Brian was a wonderful son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and a friend to everyone. His main priority in life was his son, Hunter Lane Helms, whom he worshipped. He always said that the one great thing he accomplished in life was his son, Hunter. Just the mention of Hunter’s name would bring that big smile to Brian’s face. After having encephalitis at age 21, Brian’s life was on hold for a few years and prevented him from doing some things he had wanted to accomplish in his life, but still he kept his great attitude and was saved on March 9, 2000. A member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, he had a personal relationship with his savior that he sometimes spoke of. He had a spiritual relationship with his grandfather, Charles even after his death. He reflected often on his days at West Stanly where he was quarterback, played basketball and baseball and excelled in all three. Brian treasured his family and friends. He often would email or text jokes to his buddies just to make them smile. Brian’s great smile and happy attitude could make anyone around him feel better just by being around him. Brian’s relationship with his Mom was more than extraordinary. She was Brian’s confidante and they spoke 3 to 4 times a day. It seemed those talks always calmed both Mother and Son, and always ended up with “I love you, my Mama”, which was one of the last things Brian said to his Mom. Brian’s relationship with his siblings was remarkable, especially with Todd, who was always his “protector”. He knew that he could call on Todd, Kelly and Shana at any time. Brian will be sorely missed by his family and friends but the thought of his great smile and happy attitude will keep him alive in all of our hearts. Memorials may be made to Hunter Lane Helms Trust Account, PO Box 1730, Albemarle, NC 28002
