Bruce Alan Newton, 71, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Atrium Health University City hospital in Charlotte, NC.
Bruce was born May 22, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Stanley Overton Newton Jr. and the late Sarah Alice Chancellor Newton. He was also preceded in death by his son Stanley O. Newton III.
Bruce was a corpsman in the Navy and was stationed in Key West, Fl, where he met his future wife Ellen. After getting married, Bruce and Ellen moved to Camp Lejuene, NC, where he was stationed. When Bruce was discharged from the Navy, they eventually moved back to Key West so Bruce could attend nursing school. Ellen worked while Bruce went to school. After graduating from nursing school, they moved to South Florida where he attended a new program for Nurse Practioners. When he graduated, he became a first time father to his daughter, Crystun Marie, and got a job at Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the elderly. Nine years later his son was born and died from complications of Down's Syndrome. Two years later his second daughter, Taylor Ann, was born. Bruce worked at Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for 40 years before retiring and moving to Charlotte, NC.
Bruce loved to travel and visited many countries including Russia, England, Italy, and France. He loved the outdoors, mountains and beaches and fishing with his daughters. In his later years he was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Sofia and Isaac, whom he loved so much and became his world.
The memorial service will be officiated by his brother, Reverend Terry Newton on June 9th, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home, 12115 University City Blvd, Harrisburg, NC 28075. The family will receive family and friends from 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm at 7760 Cotswold Ct Charlotte, NC 28213.
Survivors include daughter, Taylor (Kris) Smith of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Crystun (Hazen) Martin of Brewer, ME, grandchildren Sofia Martin and Isaac Smith, siblings John (Terry) Newton, Terry (Linda) Newton, and Sharon (Chris) Rader.
Memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude's and The Red Cross which he donated to every year.
