Brythe Brattain Flake, 96 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Halcyon House in Atlanta. Mrs. Flake was born July 27, 1917 in Stanly County to the late Josie Brattain. She was also preceded in death by husband, James Flake, brother, Hubert Bratton, and two sisters, Margie Barbee and Daphne Brattain. Brythe was a life-time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Locust, where she served many, many years as a Sunday School teacher and Church Clerk. A retired textile worker, Mrs. Flake enjoyed her retirement years with sewing, reading, and taking care of her flower and vegetable gardens. Active until the time of her death, she traveled on Thanksgiving week for family gatherings. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Thursday, at Hartsell Funeral Home - Midland. The funeral service will be on Friday at 3:30 at Bethel Baptist Church in Locust officiated by Pastor Charlie Littlejohn. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Survivors include son, Joe and wife Janice Flake, and 2 grandsons, Eric and David Flake, all of Norcross, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, P. O. Box 628, Locust, NC 28097. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Flake family.
