Burtram Edward “Ed†Strickland, 78, of Springdale Drive, New London, passed away September 1, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center - NorthEast, Concord, NC. Mr. Strickland was born March 9, 1932, in Stanly County. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Strickland and Letha Crumpler Strickland; his first wife, Peggy Gudger Strickland; granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Dick; and sister, Vera Gray Hubbard. Ed was a very active man, a master mechanic, an avid clock collector, and he loved his tractor. He was a gentle, easygoing man who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch in his favorite rocker. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 3, 6 – 8 p.m., at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. The funeral will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Faith Freewill Church, New London, officiated by Rev. Sam Wilson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the home. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Terry Strickland, of the home; sons, James Edward Strickland and Michael Goforth of Clover, S. C., Gary Strickland and wife, Teddi, of Gold Hill, James Alan Burris and wife, Brooke, of Oakboro, and Mark Thompson and wife, Paula, of New London; daughters, Vicky Sue Strickland, Donna Caudle and husband, Darrell, of Aquadale, Donna Thompson of Morganton, and Angela Burris Dick and husband, Brian, of Albemarle; brother, Robert Strickland of Washington; sister, Sue Francis of Indiana; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
