Calvin Lawhorn

July 17, 1929 — February 14, 2015

Calvin "Cal" Lawhorn, 85, loving husband, father, and grandfather, was called out of his suffering to reside with his Heavenly Father on February 14th, 2015.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis, whom he met at Stewartsville High School, his daughters Pam Sauer and Joyce Thompson, son-in-laws Scott Sauer and Chuck Thompson, and grandchildren Kim and Chris Sexton along with many other relatives and friends.

Calvin was born in Bedford County, Virginia to the late Nora and Dunze Lawhorn. His brother, Alvin, preceded him in death.

An Army veteran, Calvin served during the Korean War. All who knew Cal understood his deep love of God, country, and his abiding love of family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Concord, NC.

Cal loved his 44 years of work in the pump and manufacturing business. His last 15 years of work as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Grundfos Pumps USA brought him great joy. This work enabled him to travel worldwide. He loved sharing his keen observations of different cultures and stories of his visits. He accumulated so much mileage with his travels that he was able to share travel points with his granddaughter, Kim, enabling her to visit Europe on numerous occasions.

Visitation for friends and family will be Monday, February 16th, 4:30-6:30 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, NC. At Cal's request, an additional visitation and service will be held on Wednesday, February 18th at 1 pm at Oakey's Vinton Chapel in Vinton, Virginia for family and friends in this area. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton, VA. In lieu of flowers donations to the Hospice House of Cabarrus County, North Carolina would be greatly appreciated.
